About US

AVEC (Androscoggin Valley Educational Cooperative) is a collective of area high schools–Edward Little, Leavitt, Lewiston, Lisbon, and Oak Hill.  There are four programs suited to different academic interests–Art, Contemporary Issues, Math & Science, and Young Writers.

Young Writers gathers students for a series of workshops with Maine authors.  The website serves as the natural outcome of those sessions–a publication of student work.

The student work on this site demonstrates all aspects of the writing process.  Visitors will find outlines, drafts, revisions, and final versions or articles, short and long fiction (running the genre gamut), poems, screenplays, vignettes . . .

"Being able to present to the AVEC Young Writers group was not only enjoyable but also refreshing to work with so many eager writers excited about their literary pursuits. This wonderful program helps student authors explore and fine-tune their writing skills. I was honored to be part of it and would be thrilled to present again."

"This space is for a group of young writers invited to use their full imaginations. These students are given permission to talk about how to implement writing in their respective communities and why writing, regardless of genre, matters to them. It's an honor and a privilege to work with these students every time.

“The Writing Workshop was a wonderful opportunity to work with a group of highly motivated students. They were active participants throughout the whole day, sharing and commenting on their writing pieces while joining in a spirited, freewheeling discussion that hardly broke for lunch. It is a real privilege to be able to run a workshop like this and I would hope to have another chance in the future.”
